About
Telmo Pieper & Miel Krutzmann — a Dutch collective reshaping urban surfaces since 2012.
TelmoMiel is an acclaimed Dutch contemporary art collective formed by muralists and painters Telmo Pieper and Miel Krutzmann in 2012. Meeting in 2006 during their academy studies, the duo forged a deep, symbiotic collaborative framework that completely reshaped their individual practices. Operating from their studio and gallery space, Sober Collective, in Rotterdam, TelmoMiel has achieved global recognition for their ambitious public output.
Their work spans massive architectural building façades across Europe and the globe, alongside highly refined, small-scale studio works executed in oils. Every piece carries the singular moniker of the collective, symbolizing a total unification of their artistic identities. Monumental Muralism · Oil Painting · Mixed-Media Composition.
Creative Ethos
The foundational core of TelmoMiel's practice revolves around an intense investigation into the mechanics of perspective. The duo actively explores the shifting dynamics between the intent of the creator and the interpretation of the viewer—interrogating how compositions change based on multi-layered viewing points.
Their signature aesthetic seamlessly synthesizes hyper-realistic figure painting with sophisticated, playful abstraction. TelmoMiel is renowned for a unique layering methodology reminiscent of double-exposure photography. By stacking multiple distinct images and carefully cutting away the upper layers, they reveal hidden narratives beneath — executed with technical mastery, retaining a distinct quality of softness, draping images over one another like sheer, translucent fabrics.
