Public Art & Curatorial Projects
Curation, commissions and art in public space.
Above Second curates exhibitions, develops public art commissions and creates art programmes for buildings and shared spaces. We work with artists, architects, developers, cultural organisations and public agencies across murals, sculpture, ceramic installations and site-specific work.
Curation & Art Programmes
Our curatorial work brings artists and artworks together around a clear premise. We develop exhibition concepts, research and select works, commission new pieces and consider how they are presented and experienced.
For architectural and public settings, this can involve a single commission or a coordinated programme across several locations. We consider the relationship between individual works, the surrounding architecture and the people who encounter them.
Artist Commissions & Collaborations
We identify artists whose practices can respond to a brief and support the development of their proposals. This includes introducing artists to new scales and materials, establishing collaborations and sourcing existing artworks for suitable locations.
The artist’s approach informs the commission, alongside the site’s history, physical conditions and intended use.
Development & Production
We connect curatorial development with the practical requirements of delivery. Our involvement can include proposal preparation, visual presentations, budget planning and coordination with artists, fabricators and installers.
Materials, fabrication, transport, installation and long-term care are considered with the appropriate specialists. The scope and responsibilities are established for each project.
